Happy Turkey Day

I'm stuffed. Happy Thanksgiving.

I am not working today! In fact, I get to sleep in for a week. I will be working (from home), but it will be good. I've been keeping "developer hours" lately. I know you know what I'm talking about. It's turned me into a cranky, snippy, sleepy girl developer.

I will be working, obv, during this time off. However, I also want to focus on this site and doing some articles. Things have tapered lately because I haven't really had the time to write as much as I'd like.

I am NOT complaining, no matter how much it sounds like I am. I'm super excited about the launch and everything that goes along with it. Next Monday my boss and I review his new web site. That's prettty exciting. I can't begin to tell you all how much I've learned, it's dizzying.

Anyway, hope you all get to sleep in tomorrow too.

DISCLAIMER: There is no funny in this post. My bad.

  1. Hi there
I kinda stumbled into your blog and I have to say
Developer hours? Come on, you should be sleeping at your house, proper hours etc.
I m a dev too but my job stays at work and then I go coding (on my ownp projects, OSS etc) after work until wathever time I want (normally late tbh), else you dont learn anyhting new out of your project and guess what happens then?
Also you are burned out hence its very strange you ll come up with a great inovative solution to problems because you are tired and jsut trying to finish
I understand why thou but it shouldnt be normal and its nto developer hours its I set up my timelines too thight hours
    my two cents
    Cheers

  2. Andrea,
That sounds like a beautiful world, and actually, my boss did say we could hire someone after the launch to lighten my load. However, the deadline was non-negotiable, so things needed to get done. It's why I was hired. I complain, but actually, I'm thrilled that I've been able to accomplish what I have.
I would be lying though if I said I wasn't looking forward to having my nights back, lol.
    Thanks for reading!

PS Are you at a startup? Sounds like that may be a corporate position.

  3. Don't change too much code or requirements, that's my weak spot. I think, hmm I will just solve this feature somewhere this evening or this sunday. When I start coding I think would it be better if we could just do this also and I start working on that instead of the feature or I refactor my code to make more sense, but it keeps me away from solving the issue I wanted to solve :-(
It will only take a hour to add this cool feature, let's just do it! A few hours later, ok got this solved, now let's get back to the real issue :-)
When will the site go live?
Would love to see the end result.

  4. @erik_ I definitely have been learning that lesson. It's hard to prioritize. The site goes live within the next few weeks. I will send you a link!

Glad you are enjoying it and glad you get a chance to hire people, managing people is a hard, but and incredible learning experience.
