I totally agree with this, there is a social responsibility to any job that effects other people. However the other side to this is that us developers also create new jobs out of thin air. We have created a whole army of SEO/SEM consultants, who before Google, would just be low level marketers trying desperately to win over new customers in the world of print. So I really think what I do personally is going to effect people, but what we do as a profession is probably going to be a zero sum gain. P.S. Remind me to talk about SEO and why every web developer should understand it in our next meeting.
